Good luck to the GB teams competing at Worlds!
After a hype filled tour season Guildford Women and Guildford Open finish tour in 20th and 23rd respectively. That’s a new entry for the women and a fantastic start to the womens team for the club. For the Open team that’s a 9 position rise on last year!
Great work everyone! Here’s looking forward to next season and Regionals/Nationals
The final tour of the season brought GU to the elusive sunny (except when it’s raining) city of Cardiff. GU Men (GUys) and GU Women (GUrls) came into tour 3 hot off high spirits from a successful prior tournament (London Calling).
The GUys played tough opposition on Saturday and fought through some close games, fighting to make way in the top 8 of B tour. Overall the GUys finished 8th in B tour after winning 1/6, but we put in some good performances and showed we can compete at this level.
The GUrls beat rivals discie Chicks 15-1, fought a close game against Reading, with two players on our team banging heads so ended up iron manning for the rest of the day. The GUrls soldiered on with no subs and won! Despite tired legs GUrls won the final game against Lemmings 10-5! Overall Finishing 18th. Heroes!
The iconic London Calling tournament (aka Open and Womens Tour 2) was held in St Albans and was a very successful tournament for the club. The weekend had it all: sun, rain, wind, sudden death come backs. Look at this happy bunch!
The GU mens team (GUys) came away with a huge performance finishing 9th in Btour after a difficult Saturday group stage. The GUys fought a hard Sunday to climb all the way back to 9th, a highlight 8-12 comeback against Vision showed sent the team in high spirit throughout Sunday.
Our GU girls (GUrls) made their first tour appearance, needless to say the girls were excited to be competing.
The GUrls played some tough opposition stringing together amazing plays to take it to the Womens division. The girls got stronger as the weekend went by and Elle Kim raised spirits with a huge diving grab. Overall the GUrls finished in 22nd place but proved their worth coming 3rd in spirit! Our girls were also proud to take part in the Women in Ultimate Committee photo to promote the sport to women.
Onwards to Open and Womens Tour 3!
This weekend GU competed at Open Tour 1 in Nottingham and achieved a massive 10th place finish in B tour! Our best finish at an open tour event.
With a full squad at tour 2 and 3 we aim to push ourselves even higher. Huge well done to everyone for playing so well. GU will also be entering the Women’s division at Tour 2 in London. Good Luck Girls!
